sustaining a cloture vote. so if it is going to be interesting to see how harry reid handles and. he has got a terrible job. the job of the majority leader in the senate has enough responsibility but not enough authority to match it, and he already faces a contentious senate, and it will be interesting to see how he handles it. greta: one of the things i just missed, or maybe i am a full, but suppose this bill does not get passed. let's say the president flat out loses on this. why can they not go home for one week and then start it back up again? why do we have this fixation that it has to be this one by a certain time? >> yes, it is because the president made it that way. the president said he wanted a bill out of the house and senate at the end of july. i thought it was a mistake on the administration's part, on the president's part, to set that deadline, because this complex bill, i mean, this bill is huge. this is a big piece of legislation, and members have to take a large amount of time to digest it, and by setting the deadline, he already set himself up for defeat. but you are right.

for reelection next year is a man with the top job in the united states senate. the majority leader harry reid. he behalf have trouble keeping that job according to a new poll in his home state of nevada it indicates reid faces stiff competition in the 2010 senate race and may become an underdog. the polls show senator reid with support from 38% of voters compared to 49% from one of his republican challengers. the poll of 400 registered voters was conducted by mason dixon for the las vegas review journal, the newspaper there. it was the last standing steel column removed from ground zero. and now it's returned to the world trade center site. our lead story on a fox trip across america. new york, the 58-ton piece of steel has been cend kept in hanger at the kennedy airport for the last seven years. it's known as the last column. it's removal marked the end of the recovery efforts following the attacks of 9/11. now it's to be part of the national september 11th memorial and museum planned for that site. california. a single engine plane making an emergency landing into oncoming traffic on the 10

meteorologist gee vytas reid joins us with the sky watch forecast. vytas? >> see relief from the heat as we get down the road a bit. but tomorrow another hot and humid day. and it has helped to fire off a lot of storms over the west. violent line of storms pushing through southern illinois, indiana, kentucky and then also portions of western tennessee. this activity is going to continue to push south. for us relatively quiet conditions. we had pop-up showers earlier today. but we can see the temperatures across the area. 81 in baltimore downtown on. 79 in d.c. 79 in hagerstown. and nice warm up tomorrow with the temperatures getting into the lower 90s. but tomorrow afternoon, looking at the thunderstorms firing up across the area. we could get severe weather to watch out for. by mid afternoon. so we keep an eye to the sky. but looks like a break from some of the heat. as we get into thursday. i will have a closer look at it and the weekend outlook coming up in the seven-day forecast in a few moments. >> all right. vytas, thank you. >> despite opposition the governor is throwing his support behi

-up showers in this region. what is next? chief meteorologist vytas reid joins us with the sky watch forecast. >> what is next? well most of the activity to the south and west of us. there was a chance for showers and thunderstorms in our neck of the woods earlier today. but it really did not come together. but it started to make a turn our direction. looking south. we could look at that heavy shower activity south of shar lolls lotsville, west of richmond and it looks like the activity is starting to make a turn to the north. heading due east. and now heading northeast. to the north. so we may get to see some of the activity move into our neck of the woods in the next few hours. in fact, looking at it in motion. you can see how the showers are starting to make the way kind of up 95. so late overnight tonight. chance we could get a rumble of thunder. better chances are for the folks on the forecast. hear is another look at that. rain become up. associated with low pressure. moving our direction. temperatures right now are in the upper 70s. lower 80s. looks like we will see cooler air in here

where are the storms now? >> chief meteorologist vytas reid is here with a look at the forecast. >> nice gusty storm that pushed through the area. they kind of lost strength west of the city. and then regained some strength as we had all the heat and humidity to fire up the atmosphere. here are the storms right now making the way across the bay. folks in chestertown, millington and barkley. heavy rain. centreville as well. down to portions of anne arundel county. looks like folks in annapolis, are starting to see the tail end of the storm. seevinsville and graysonville, decent rain and lightning at this time. shady side and mayo getting rain as well. you can see how the showers push off to the east. and you can see this will head easton. heaviest shower. coming your way. now putting it into motion. you can see how the activity pushes across the bay and head off to the east. back up in pennsylvania, still showers and thunderstorms. you can see a lot of vivid lightning associated with the storms. because it is hot and humid out there. that creates charged particles in the atmosphere to hel
